Users review: Alien while technically a science fiction horror / suspense greatest ever made. Now Ridley Scott is one of the most famous and successful directors in Hollywood, but I think hes done anything during the last decade, this perfect piece of film, which I think is close to a masterpiece. Indeed, on closer recognize only three films I really like Scott, who had his first three. The last Blade Runner was released twenty years ago, so I Scott is long past its use by date. Anyway, himself an alien is a beautiful piece of work, and is almost flawless. Address Scotts is great and everything about it is excellent - strong script by Dan Obannon et al, evocative score by Jerry Goldsmith, great design and special effects, including contributions incredibly HRGiger, all contribute to a great movie experience. I also really like how the cast of actors and not stars, so there was a lot of tension generation who will live and who will die. This is something very few have done later films, Pitch Black is one of the exceptions. A Sigourney Weaver as Ripley is now an icon, but when the film was first released much else was virtually unknown, after a small cameo in Woody Allen's Annie Hall and not. The rest of the cast is just as good. I especially enjoy Yaphet Kotto (Blue Collar) and the legendary Harry Dean Stanton (Wise Blood) as a wise cracking under the deck crew. Many people seem to James Cameron's Aliens sequence preference for this, but as I prefer horror and suspense movies much for some action, I think this is definitely the better film, and still the strongest and most effective in the series. Alien is a classic horror movie and totally memorable and I can not recommend it enough. If you havent seen before watching immediately!
